Arod involved in Historic Night

MLB history was made last night. In the center of it , who else, Alex Rodriguez. In the top of the ninth, Arod hit a long fly ball to left, ruled a homerun by the third base umpire. Joe Maddon, manager of the Rays, disputed the call saying it was foul.

For the first time in history, the umpiring crew went to the instant replay. After review, the call stands, for a two run homerun.

Yankees won the game 8 - 4. They need to keep up their winning ways, to keep their fading playoff hopes alive.

Mike Mussina picked up his 17th victory of the year.

Yankees Leading 6 - 2

The Yankees hold a 6 - 2 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Xavier Nady has a two run homer, he has been an excellent pick up for the Yanks this year.

Mike Mussina pitched 6 strong innings, giving up 10 hits, but also striking out eight.
Marte is now pitching, hopefully the pen can hold this lead.

Time is Running Out

The Yankees are currently 7 games back in the Wild Card race behind the Boston Red Sox. There is no need to worry about catching the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yanks are 12 back in the AL East Division.

New York plays Tampa tonight, and at this point of the season, they need to start a tremendous winning streak.

Mike Mussina takes on Edwin Jackson.
